These stunning clay elephants are 100% handcrafted and hand painted by independent huichol or Wixárika artisans and families from Nayarit, Jalisco, Zacatecas, and Durango, México.
 
The elephant in the Huichol culture represents wisdom and power, combining the largest size of any land-based species with great intelligence as well as a life span that can reach 80 years. 
 
Traditional methods for producing hand painted clay figures have been in use since the 1630s. The unifying factor of the work is the colorful decoration using symbols and designs which date back centuries. 
 
Each piece is beautifully painted with a premium matte finish in the style and tradition of the families, technique that has passed from generation to generation.
